Become a Volunteer!

Want to make a difference for animals in need? You’re in the right place. Our volunteers play a huge role in daily shelter life—from walking dogs to helping at events and everything in between. Apply below to join a team that helps make second chances possible every day.

Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Individual volunteers support the shelter on a recurring basis during approved volunteer hours (Tuesday–Sunday, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.). This flexible, ongoing role allows volunteers to choose tasks based on need and comfort level, including walking dogs, socializing cats, cleaning, enrichment, and other shelter support.

To volunteer individually, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old (youth ages 10–15 may volunteer alongside a parent or legal guardian who is also enrolled and attends orientation)
  • Have a signed waiver of liability (all volunteers must sign; those under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign)
  • Have a valid personal email address
  • Purchase and wear a volunteer T-shirt while on-site
  • Follow all shelter policies and procedures

Group Volunteer Experiences

Group volunteering is a structured, guided experience for schools, clubs, workplaces, and youth groups. These are typically one-time or limited-visit opportunities where groups complete hands-on activities such as enrichment toy making, shelter cleanup, or approved animal interaction.

To schedule a group visit, email Volunteer@CedarBendHumane.org.
