Animal Control Services
Rural Black Hawk County

  • Black Hawk County Animal Control responds to calls and aids in rescuing abandoned, sick or injured and stray animals from rural Black Hawk County.
  • An Animal Control Officer is on call between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and can be reached at 319-232-6887.
  • If you have an animal emergency after 5:00 p.m. or on weekend days, please contact the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s department at 319-291-2515.

City of Waterloo

  • Waterloo Animal Control handles all animal control services for the city of Waterloo. They will respond to calls and aid in rescuing abandoned, sick or injured, and stray animals within the city limits of Waterloo. 
  • Waterloo Animal Control partners with the CBHS in a community wide free-roaming trap-neuter-and-return program.
  • A Waterloo Animal Control Officer can be reached at 319-883-0797.

City of Cedar Falls

  • Cedar Falls Animal Welfare handles animal control services for the city of Cedar Falls. They will respond to calls and aid in rescuing abandoned, sick or injured, and stray animals within the city limits of Cedar Falls.
  • Cedar Falls Animal Welfare partners with the CBHS in a community wide free-roaming trap-neuter-and-return program.
  • To report an animal related concern, call Cedar Falls dispatch at (319)291-2515. Dispatch will direct your call to an animal welfare specialist. If one isn't available, an officer will assist you.
  • For animal control at the University of Northern Iowa, please contact the university police at 319-273-2712.

City of Independence

  • Independence Police Department handles all animal control services for the city of Independence. They will respond to calls and aid in rescuing abandoned, sick or injured, and stray animals within the city limits of Independence. 
  • An Independence Officer can be reached at 319-334-2520.
  • If an animal is unable to be identified, they will be transferred to Cedar Bend Humane Society located at 1166 W. Airline Hwy, Waterloo. 

Waterloo & Cedar Falls Pet Licensing Fees 

Cedar Bend Humane Society is able to issue Cedar Falls pet licenses! Those needing to license their pet can stop by our intake or adoption building located at 1166 W. Airline Hwy, Waterloo, IA 50703. Proof of rabies and altering is required.
