VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR
CBHS is accepting applications through Tuesday, September 11th.

Cedar Bend Humane Society is taking applications for a full time volunteer and community outreach coordinator. We are looking for an energetic, outgoing individual that enjoys working with people and has excellent communication and leadership skills.

Schedule will vary to include some weekends and evenings.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, recruit, train, schedule, and manage Cedar Bend Humane Society volunteers
  • Train CBHS volunteers in animal handling and care, and kennel cleaning.
  • Maintain volunteer information on Volgistics software
  • Other duties as assigned.     

Community Outreach Responsibilities:

  • Manage community outreach efforts
  • Organization tours
  • Educational presentations to schools, businesses, girl scouts, and community groups
  • Assist with special event planning
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical demands include:

  • Lifting and moving animals and cages
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Frequent movement, including but not limited to standing, walking, stooping, carrying heavy loads, movement of cages, restraining active animals.
  • Operation of company motor vehicle

            

GRANT WRITER AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH ASSISTANT
CBHS is accepting applications through Tuesday, September 11th.

Cedar Bend Humane Society is taking applications for a part-time (25 -30 hours) grant writer and a community outreach assistant. We are looking for an energetic, outgoing individual that enjoys working with people and has excellent communication, writing, and leadership skills.

Work schedule will vary to include some weekends and evenings.

Grant Writing Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
  • Research to identify which funding opportunities are aligned with Cedar Bend Humane Society programs and mission.
  • Maintain current records, including summary reports of grant tracking and reporting.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Learn the mission and operations of the humane society to better understand grant proposals.
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple assignments

Community Outreach Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Assist with community outreach efforts
  • Educational presentations to schools, businesses, girl scouts, and community groups
  • Provide tours of the Cedar Bend Humane Society campus
  • Assist with special event planning
  • Other duties as assigned.

Medical Technician Assistant
 
Cedar Bend Humane Society is currently accepting applications for a part-time medical technician assistant. Applicants must be available to work Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. 32 hours per week. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. On the job training will include but not limited to giving vaccinations, medically treating and caring for stray and adoptable animals. We are looking for dependable, motivated individuals that have some animal handling skills or background. Must be willing to work in a rewarding and fast paced environment and have customer service skills.

Intake Coordinator
Cedar Bend Humane Society is currently accepting applications for a part-time intake coordinator. Intake Coordinator is needed to work Wednesday - Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 24-32 hours per week. Duties include, but are not limited to excellent phone and customer service skills. Animal handling experience is preferred, working with daily lost and found to help match lost pets with owners. Assisting with spay/neuter check-in. Checking in daily animal control stray animals. Handling owner's claiming lost pets. Cleaning intake lobby and assist with cleaning stray animal kennels.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Office and data entry tasks. Fast paced working environment, must have the ability to multi-task and deal with a variety of different customers.

Adoption Counselors 
The Cedar Bend Humane Society is accepting applications for part-time adoption counselors. Adoption Counselors are needed to work various weekday and weekend shifts, 25 - 35 hours per week. Must be capable of handling large dogs, have strong customer service skills, and work as a team member. Job duties include but are not limited to matching adoptable pets with new families, caring for and cleaning animal kennels and cleaning the adoption center. Office and data entry tasks. Assist with volunteers and fundraising events. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Kennel Attendant
The Cedar Bend Humane Society is accepting applications for part-time kennel attendants. Needed to work 20-30 hours per week. Weekends required. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, be comfortable working with both dogs and cats, and work various weekday and weekend shifts.  Duties include, but not limited to: feeding animals, cleaning kennels, cleaning litter boxes, laundry, and keeping indoor and outdoor exercise kennels clean.  This job can be fast-paced and physically challenging and will include indoor and outdoor work.  Individuals should be self-motivated and dependable. Some holiday hours are required.

CBHS Internship Program (Unpaid)

The CBHS Internship Program provides a wide range of opportunities for students to gain insight into the work of CBHS and a non-profit organization. CBHS is a 501c3 non-profit organization accredited by the Better Business Bureau and the only full service shelter in Black Hawk County. Every year a limited number of places for internships are available.

CBHS offers Internships in the following departments:

  • Adoptions
  • Special Events
  • Behavior and Learning
  • Marketing and Communications

Currently CBHS is offering internships for the Volunteer Program.

 Minimum eligibility criteria to take part in the program.

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree program in a college or university, second university degree or higher, at the time of application and during the internship.
  • A minimum of 18 years of age
  • Approval from the department’s internship adviser and completed Internship Application Package should be turned in before starting the internship.
