Lost a Pet

If you are missing a pet please check Iowa Pet Alert's FOUND pets immediately! All strays brought to CBHS are posted in a timely manner. Please verify in person that it is your pet. See below for information on reclaiming your pet.  

  • The Cedar Bend Humane Society has contracted with Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, and rural Black Hawk County for the boarding and caring of stray domestic animals including roaming cats.
  • Please check Iowa Pet Alert daily for stray animals brought to Cedar Bend Humane Society.
  • Lost pets are encouraged to be posted on Iowa Pet Alert's LOST pets

Found a Pet

If you find a stray pet please call your local Animal Control agency or you may bring stray animals to Cedar Bend Humane Society. 

  • Residents from the following cities may bring stray domestic animals to CBHS at no charge without an appointment.
    • Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Washburn, Voorhies, Finchford, Dewar, Eagle Center
  • Individuals residing outside of designated contracted areas will be charged a $54.00 stray drop off fee. Please call ahead as pets will be accepted by appointment only and if kennel space allows. 
  • Resident from the city of Independence must contact an Independence Police Officer at 319-334-2520. Strays from Independence cannot be brought directly to CBHS from the public. 
  • If you find a pet and wish to retain the pet in your custody and try and find the owner directly, please post their photo and information on Iowa Pet Alert's FOUND pets. 

Stray Holding Time

  • Waterloo Stray Animals: Three days
  • Cedar Falls Stray Animals: Five days
  • Waverly Stray Animals: Seven days
  • Independence Stray Animals: Three days
  • Rural Black Hawk County: Three days
  • Out of county Stray Animals: No pre-determined holding period
  • Litters are held for 24 hours
  • Stray pets that have identification such as a microchip or tags will be held for seven days and all efforts will be made to contact and reunite the pet with the owner

Reclaiming Your Pet

  • Pet owners can reclaim their dogs/cats at the CBHS Intake center located at 1166 W. Airline Hwy, Waterloo IA 50703.
  • Hours: 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. & 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. daily.
  • Owners will be asked to bring a valid I.D., provide proof of ownership, rabies vaccinations, and city license when they arrive to claim their pet. 

Fees

  • CBHS Boarding, Care, and Distemper and Bordetella vaccinations: $50.00 (first 24 hours of stay); $20.00 for any additional day. 
  • City Pick Up Fee: $56.00. Charged if Animal Control brings in pet. The fee is paid to the city. Each additional pickup in a calendar year increases by the amount of $10.
  • Microchip Fee: $40.00. Waterloo residents only. Required by the City of Waterloo if an animal is not already microchipped.
  • Rabies Vaccination Fee: $25.00 
  • City License Fee: $5.00 - $50.00 (See AC page for license fee details)
