On November 2nd, Cedar Bend Humane Society partnered with Cedar Falls Police, Cedar Falls Code Enforcement Division, and Waterloo Animal Control on a suspected animal hoarding case at a residential home in Cedar Falls. The animals on site appeared to have been living in unsanitary conditions critical enough to show indications of adverse health issues. In total, 23 animals were removed from the home and placed in the care of Cedar Bend Humane Society
The CBHS medical department and veterinarian Dr. Kent Melick DVM examined each individual animal upon arrival and found a multitude of ailments including open sores and scabs, skin infections, ear infections, overgrown toenails, severe coat matting, urine burn on feet, flea infestation, internal parasites, upper respiratory infections, and periodontal diseases in several mouths were discovered. On top of these conditions, we were dismayed to see all of the animals were of poor weight including several of whom were seriously emaciated and malnourished.
All of the animals vary in age, breed, and size. Of the 23 rescued, there are eight cats, seven dogs, seven rabbits, and one guinea pig. Each animal is in the process of receiving proper medical treatment, and we need YOUR help to cover the expensive care for these animals' rehabilitation! They have suffered much stress in their previous environment, making their medical treatment and finding heartfelt homes at the forefront of this case.
Cedar Bend Humane Society cares for hundreds of animals, and proactively tending for the intake of such a vast number of animals at one time is very taxing. The total medical costs for all 23 animals to be ready for adoption will be upwards of $5,000. This total includes treatment for their medical conditions and to get them ready for adoption.
We are in dire need of Timothy Hay for all the bunnies and Monetary Donations to fulfill all 23 animals' various veterinary care such as surgeries, vaccinations, spay/neuter, antibiotics, and more. Once all medical treatments have been performed and the vet clears them medically, these animals will be looking for their forever homes.
Please consider donating to help us give them a better life! Any bit helps!
