Dear friends of Cedar Bend Humane Society,

Thank you for your patience and support during this challenging time. All of the staff at Cedar Bend Humane Society is working diligently to implement new protocols and measures to ensure that we can continue giving the homeless animals in our community the care they deserve. Our focus will be to continue to provide our animals with top-notch care while prioritizing the health and safety of our staff and the community.

Here are updated changes that we have made to our programs and services offered: UPDATED 6/7/2020

>>> Cedar Bend Humane Society has re-opened adoptions by appointment only with an approved application. Our adoption building will remain CLOSED to the public.

Those entering the facilities are now required to be wearing a face mask. Otherwise, we ask that all business will be conducted from your vehicle.

We would not exist without the continued support from our amazing community. We appreciate each and every person who takes the time to share our stories, gives even a single dollar to help fund our mission, selflessly gives any time or effort to assist us in the work we do, and who opens their hearts and homes to rescue animals in need. CBHS is grateful to be a part of the Cedar Valley, and we hope to restore our services back to the community as soon as it is safe to do so.

Adoptions Program Open as No-Contact Adoptions by Appointment Only

We are happy to announce that the Cedar Bend Humane Society will be opening no-contact adoptions!

Those interested in adopting can start the process by filling out an electronic adoption form found on our website. We are currently operating with limited staff and are asking prospective adopters to be patient. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis per animal.

If you are interested in adopting and have applied in the past three months, you do not need to re-submit an application. Please call adoptions at 319-232-6887 to let our adoption counselors know which animal you are interested in adopting.

  • • Dog meet and greets will take place in our outdoor fenced in the exercise pen.
  • • Appointments may be rescheduled during adverse weather conditions.
  • • Potential adopters will be allowed to meet two dogs per scheduled visit.
  • • Scheduled visits are limited to one-hour intervals
  • • Please do not touch the gate upon entering and exiting and keep your distance from staff during dog introductions.
  • • Please bring your own leash to take your new family home with!

  • • Cat adoptions can be done strictly through our no-contact adoption process.
  • • Virtual meet and greets can be held through Skype or Facebook Messenger.
  • • Adoption staff will provide pictures and personality information to help each prospective adopter choose the purrfect cat for each family.
  • • Once the adoption process is complete, you can pick up your new family member from our Adoption Building's sanitized vestibule or staff can deliver them to your car.
  • • To ensure that your new kitty is safe and secure traveling to their new home, and to reduce cross-contamination and spreading of viruses we will require each adopter to purchase a travel carrier from CBHS at the cost of $5.00
  • • Those who do not want a no-contact adoption can come inside to meet the cat in one of our meet and greet rooms. Please follow the direction of the CBHS staff, do not touch unnecessary surfaces, and limit guests to no more than 3.

  • • Do not make an adoption appointment if you are sick.
  • • All visitors must wear a mask during their visit.
  • • Washing hands before your visit and handling shelter animals is recommended.
  • • CBHS will provide hand sanitizer to use between the handling of different dogs
  • • When applicable, communication will be done via phone and paperwork/adoption payment will be done electronically.

Our updated list of adoptable animals can be found at www.CedarBendHumane.org. Be sure to like Cedar Bend's new Facebook page to watch for new arrivals!

We are determined to place animals into loving homes while continuing our emphasis on safety. Any questions can be directed to our adoption team at 319-232-6887. Can & Bottle Donations

Can and bottle collection has restarted!

🐾 Remove any trash, food, or miscellaneous items
🐾 Include only recyclable containers (no water bottles!)
🐾 Set glass containers on the ground in front of the fence cage

Mutt Hutt Dog & Cat Boarding

>>> Now open and taking reservations! Call 319-233-0159 to make a reservation today!

🐾 One visitor in the building at a time.
🐾 Please do not bring your own dog bed or bedding.
🐾 Use the hand sanitizer provided.

We're Here to Help

It is our top priority to make sure we are able to continue to care for all of the needy animals in our community, and that care extends to our pet-owning families. City of Waterloo and Cedar Falls Animal Control Services have partnered with CBHS to provide pet food delivery to elderly citizens or persons not able to get out to pick up food for their pet.

>>> If you find yourself in an emergency situation with your pet or are experiencing financial hardships and struggling to afford pet food, please contact CBHS at 319-232-6887 to see if we can be of any assistance.

From all of us at Cedar Bend Humane Society, we hope that you and your family are staying safe during this difficult time. Please watch our social media outlets and website for future updates. We appreciate your patience and support. We could not do this without you.
