Remy

More/Less

MY STORY: Remy was brought to Cedar Bend after not getting along well with the family's cats in the home.

AGE: Remy is about 4 years old.

MY STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES: Remy is an active dog who has a high desire to play with other animals. Occasionally, Remy can be too rough with other dogs and cats, and the other animals view Remy's playing behaviors as overbearing. If Remy lives with another dog, the other dog must be very tolerant of others. Remy does excellent with children of all ages, has attended various events in the Cedar Valley that have children, and has also visited residents at a few nursing homes, on occasion. This being said, she loves people! Remy's previous owners noted that she does very well with house training, and will often let someone know she has to go outside. One struggle that Remy has, is that Remy does not do well riding in a car. She gets carsick after driving long distances, and should be given an anti-nausea medication prior to long transports in a vehicle.

WHAT TYPE OF HOME AM I SEARCHING FOR: Remy is a high energy girl who would love a big yard to run in! She loves to play, and enjoys any toy that squeaks! She is a wonderful girl with a big heart. She would love an active home that would take her on regular walks. Mostly, Remy wants someone that will love her and let her sleep on the bed or couch with them. She loves to snuggle!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Remy has an odd looking bow in her front leg which resulted after being hit by a car when she was younger. Her leg injury healed back together, however, it never healed correctly. The bow in her front leg is permanent, however, it does not appear to cause her any pain. Remy's future adopters should understand that Remy may have some arthritis in this leg as she ages.

AGE: Marissa is about 15 months old.

MY STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES: Marissa is very protective over her food bowl. This being said, she would likely do best in a home that would give Marissa her privacy as she ate. It may be best to have no small children in the home to avoid any complications. Dean

More/Less

MY STORY: Dean was brought to Cedar Bend from another animal rescue organization in Iowa. He is currently the longest dog resident at Cedar Bend. Dean arrived December 13, 2016.

AGE: Dean is about 2 years old.

MY STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES: Dean's biggest challenge is due to his (likely genetic) condition of being deaf. Dean has likely been deaf his entire life. This can pose some challenges for Dean, and he has reverted to his other senses, such as sight and smell, in order to understand humans and other dogs. Dean has started learning the command "sit" with the help of the staff at Cedar Bend, by responding to a hand signal and a delicious treat. We are very confident that Dean will learn more hand signals, and will be a fantastic companion for a family! Dean sometimes struggles with understanding other dog's behaviors and responses, however, he has done very well adjusting and has a few dog friends at the shelter that he loves to romp around in the playpen with. The staff at Cedar Bend strongly feel that he would benefit from having a dog companion in the home that could help him navigate and communicate with humans better. Dean tends to be very focused on cats and small animals such as squirrels when outside, and would love to chase them if given the opportunity. This being said, Dean should not live in a home with cats, and would do best in a fenced in yard (opposed to an un-fenced in yard) where he could not run away if he decides to chase a squirrel.

WHAT TYPE OF HOME AM I SEARCHING FOR: Dean would love a home with a doggy companion and someone who is knowledgeable on how to work with dogs that are deaf. Dean is a fantastic boy with a big heart, he just needs an adopter who is willing to work with his challenges. He is a staff favorite at Cedar Bend, and all of the staff are hopeful to find him a loving home soon. He is the longest dog resident at Cedar Bend.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Dean is completely deaf, and has likely been since birth. It is unclear why he has this condition, however, it could possibly be linked to a genetic abnormality.

Due to Chi's possible food possessiveness, it is suggested that she does not live with small children to prevent any issues or accidents.

WHAT TYPE OF HOME AM I SEARCHING FOR: Chi is searching for a home that is willing to work with Chi's food possessive quirks.
