The CBHS has recently partnered with the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and on Friday, May 13th a new pet food pantry program was launched.  The Cedar Bend Humane Society Paws Pantry will assist low income individuals and families with providing pet food for their pets.  The outreach program is designed to help keep pets living with their families through time of need and to decrease the number of animal surrenders throughout our community. 

The CBHS will no longer distribute any free pet food to people in need at the shelter.  All pet food will now be distributed at the Food Bank and only during our scheduled pantry sessions.

The Paws Pantry will be open every second and fourth Friday of the month from 8:30-11:30am at the Food Bank, depending on the amount of excess donated pet food that the CBHS acquires on a monthly basis.  A one gallon Ziploc bag or more (depending on size/weight of pet) of dry dog or cat  food will be distributed per eligible registered person/pet once a month during scheduled pantry sessions.  

The Paws Pantry will open to eligible candidates during the following times this year:

January 13th and 27th

February 10th and 24th

March 9th and 23rd

April 13th and 27th 

May  11th and 25th

June 8th and 22nd

July 13th and 27th

August 10th and 24th

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is located at 106 East 11th Street in Waterloo.

The CBHS is also seeking volunteers who would be interested in helping us bag the pet food into Ziploc bags.  If you and/or your organziation is looking for a community service project to do, this would be a great one to participate in! 12th Annual Neuter-A-Tom Clinics Announced

 Each spring, animal shelters across the country are flooded with new kittens. One fertile cat can have three litters of kittens per year, with an average of five kittens per litter. The Cedar Bend Humane Society took in nearly 12,000 animals last year, including thousands of unwanted cats and kittens. It becomes difficult to find a home for hundreds of kittens during this time.

 One of the goals of the Cedar Bend Humane Society is community education about responsible pet ownership. One of the most important elements of being a responsible pet owner is ensuring that your animal is spayed or neutered in order to help prevent overpopulation.

 Local veterinarian clinics are partnering with the Cedar Bend Humane Society to help stop overpopulation. Each clinic listed below has agreed to perform the neuter process on farm cat(s) and/or tame stray cat(s). (The cost is just $15.00 and this fee is a donation to the Cedar Bend Humane Society). Some clinics may require additional vaccinations, which may incur an additional charge.
